Bloomberg Getting Started Guide For Students

What is the Bloomberg Terminal?

Bloomberg remains at the cutting edge of innovation, delivering fast access to indispensible news, data and trading tools. The Bloomberg Terminal is a computer software system that enables access to the Bloomberg Professional Service through which users can monitor and analyze real-time financial market data and place trades on the electronic trading platform.  The system also provides  price quotes, and messaging across its proprietary secure network.

How do I access the Bloomberg Terminal?
Access to the Bloomberg Terminal is located at a single workstation near the Munday Library Information Desk. Be sure to reserve your session.  *First-time users, choose “Create a New Login” from the start page.  Follow the steps, making sure you complete each field – a text message with your pass code will be sent to you.  Remember your username and password for future use.   We recommend completing the Bloomberg Market Concepts  (BMC) Module before using the terminal. On the Bloomberg terminal, you can also run the function BPS which will provide you with documentation on functionalities that are available within the Bloomberg terminal. Look at this function for available resources on the functionalities that could assist for your classes. (Consult the Munday Library's Business Research Guide for more training opportunities).

How do I Get Certified on Bloomberg through the Bloomberg Market Concepts Module?
BMC is an 8-hour self-paced e-learning course that provides a visual introduction to the financial markets. BMC consists of four modules — Economics, Currencies, Fixed Income and Equities — woven together from Bloomberg data, news, analytics and television. For free access, the modules must be completed on the Bloomberg Terminal in the Munday Library.

Can I pause a module and resume it at a later date?
Yes. When you log back into the module, it will reopen where you left off.

Can I just do one module?
Yes. However to earn the certificate of completion you must complete all modules.

When do I get the certificate? I would like to post it on my LinkedIn account.
When you log in at BMC<GO>, your certificate will be downloadable from the course home page as soon as you have completed all four modules.

Do I  need a calculator to complete the course?
Yes. A basic calculator is sufficient.

Is there a pass/fail mark learners need to achieve in order to obtain a certificate?
No. It is a certificate of completion.

Can I download the videos?
No. The videos are the property of Bloomberg LP.
